Boka Seafood is a charming, family-run restaurant and shellfish farm located in Risan, Montenegro, near the Bay of Kotor. This hidden gem offers an authentic, no-frills dining experience where guests can savor freshly harvested mussels and oysters directly from the farm.
The farm is situated just a short distance from Risan. Run by the Hudiček family, including a former sailor, the farm spans approximately 1 hectare and features twenty breeding lines for mussels and oysters.
The cultivation process is sustainable, utilizing natural purification systems and adhering to HACCP standards to ensure high-quality, organic seafood.
Mussels are grown on nursery lines or buoys connected by ropes, which also serve as breeding pergolas. It takes about a year and a half for mussels to reach harvest size. Oysters, known for their aphrodisiac qualities, require approximately three years to grow to a consumable size of 6 cm.
At Boka Seafood, the menu is refreshingly simple, focusing on the day's catch. Dishes include mussels, oysters, prawns, fish, and zucchini, all prepared fresh on-site. There is no printed menu; guests inquire about the available offerings, which are cooked in a small kitchen with a fireplace right by the water.
The restaurant's ambiance is casual and intimate, with only about six or seven tables set along the waterfront. Guests can enjoy their meals while watching the preparation of the seafood and soaking in the stunning views of the bay.
